Currently it is against the law for anyone to carry a concealed weapon without a permit in the state of Wisconsin, but that could soon change. August is the first ever National Shooting Sports Month that’s designed to celebrate shooting sports. It’s estimated that 44% people in Wisconsin own a gun and Hello Wisconsin got a first-hand experience seeing what shooting for sport is all about.
The number of Wisconsinites applying for permits to carry concealed firearms is double what it was last year. Though most are renewing their licenses, concealed carry is becoming more popular overall.
Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said he favors the idea of schools being able to offer an elective gun safety class. “I think it’s a good bill,” Kowalczyk said Thursday. “I think a lot of parents will encourage their kids to take it. Law enforcement encounters an accidental shooting numerous times a year. If this program saves one person from being injured, or a fatality, it’s well worth it.”
